City Lunatics

2021

How often do I meet them! I even say hi to some of them when it’s not the first time we see each other in different parts of NYC. Every one of them is in their own state of mind. Ones wearing complex makeup on their face, on old high heel boots, having dusty wigs on their head remind me of Blanche from the Tram "Desire". Others appear very quickly in different places, shouting some weird phrases to the wind, eyes always with dark circles around. Those who drink a lot have dogs devoted to them. I once saw an old gray-haired poodle with a broken leg, barking at everyone at the entrance to the subway, defending his human. He bit people’s legs and grinned terribly, like a wolf. And his "goddess" was asleep, so he sometimes kissed her on the face and climbed on her like on a mound. There are also situations when homeless people, tired of reality, carry several bags or walk with a cart where all their belongings are. They always have a few hats on their heads, sometimes they wear two coats.

This is a life that is close to us, but it seems that no one notices it. And everyone can become like them one day: walking the streets, howling songs, collecting pieces of paper that pollute the city in their big bags and shying away from people.
